Academy Award winner Ethan Coen will return to the Atlantic Theater Company this spring with the world premiere of Offices, a collection of one-act comedies. Coen will reteam with Atlantic Artistic Director Neil Pepe, who directed Coen’s acclaimed Almost An Evening at the theater last season. Offices begins previews April 15 with opening set for May 7. The limited engagement plays through May 31.
The show’s ensemble cast features Academy Award winner F. Murray Abraham Almost an Evening, Daniel Abeles Behold, the Bowery!, Brennan Brown Atlantic’s Celebration, Aya Cash From Up Here, John Bedford Lloyd Some Americans Abroad, Daniel London Patch Adams, Mary McCann Spring Awakening, Joey Slotnick Almost an Evening, Greg Stuhr November, C.J. Wilson The Voysey Inheritance and Daniel Yelsky the upcoming film Meet Monica Velour.
In a cryptic description of the plays, Atlantic said in a statement, “Hiring and firing are antisocial acts. Workplace pressures make for nasty competition. And the work itself can be meaningless and alienating. Accordingly, the three short plays that make up Offices are comedies.”
Coen is best known for his film work with brother Joel, including the Academy Award winning films No Country for Old Men and Fargo. Their long resume also includes O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Raising Arizona, Barton Fink, The Hudsucker Proxy, The Big Lebowski and Burn After Reading. Coen made his off-Broadway debut in January 2007 at Atlantic’s Stage 2 with Almost An Evening, enjoying an extension and eventual transfer off-Broadway to the 45 Bleecker Street theaters on April 2 before ending its limited engagement on June 1.
The design team for Offices includes scenic design by Riccardo Hernandez, costume design by Laura Bauer, lighting design by David Weiner and sound design by Obadiah Eaves.
